”Before coming to Reaktor I worked at several different software companies, as an architect, software designer, and project manager. I got interested in applying to Reaktor when a friend told me that Agile methods, which were new back then, were being tried out here.
Now I’ve been working at Reaktor, in different roles, for almost five years – the past six months as an Agile Coach. Agile Coaches help our clients and Reaktor’s own teams in software development projects that make use of Agile methodologies. In practice, the job involves some classroom teaching, but I spend most of my time discussing and working with development teams and other client employees. I might work at one client’s premises for a month, and then I’ll move on to the next.
The job of Agile Coach requires broad expertise in software development, an outgoing personality and a desire to help clients. At Reaktor, Agile Coaches belong to their own Reaktor Coaching team. The team works independently; for instance, we team members divide up our work among ourselves.
Reaktor is a different kind of place to work. There’s a common-sense approach to issues here. Employees are trusted and given responsibility. Although the company has grown significantly over the past five years, we’ve been able to maintain a good, relaxed environment.
I’m an active member of the Agile Finland Association, which brings together experts who share an interest in Agile methods. I occasionally also attend international conferences and speak about the benefits of Agile methodologies.
Reaktor has introduced me to new hobbies as well: I used to hate running, but now I belong to the running club and I’ve signed up for the marathon next year. I also belong to the push-up club, whose twenty or so active members did a total of 100,000 push-ups during 2008.”
