“I have been working as a software engineer at Reaktor for about five years now. The company has changed and grown a great deal during this time: Projects are more interesting than ever before, the expertise of Reaktor employees has grown, and the company has become better known.
But the original Reaktor ambience is still here. Joining our clubs, for example, is easy for new and long-serving employees alike, and our organisational hierarchy is as non-existent as ever. You can still text the CEO and ask for his burger patty recipe, and there is no need to go cap in hand to some sort of ivory tower.
I work as a software engineer and I’m doing exactly what I want — which is coding. In my previous jobs I noticed that if you don't want to move on to managerial duties, then people think you are somehow stuck. But here you are constantly learning new things, and you can develop yourself as a specialist. You are surrounded by so many talented people who you can easily ask for help.
Over the last five years my own life situation has also changed, as I now have three children. It has been nice to find other Reaktor parents with young children, and together we have launched a club called Reaktor Heirs. We had a family Christmas party, for example, and dozens of Reaktor employee families came to celebrate. The party was arranged at an adventure park for children, and we also had a visit from Father Christmas. The club’s own IRC channel is a great everyday way to say hi, and to talk about parenthood and children with others in the same life situation.”
