Specifications and Prestudies

Specifications and Prestudies Form the Basis of a Wise Investment Decision.

A prestudy defines the requirements, framework conditions and business objectives of a project. A prestudy can be used as the basis for planning a successful development project.

A prestudy normally covers:

  • Analysis of the current situation and needs
  • Business objectives and scope of the project
  • Criteria for assessing the project's success
  • Comparison of the different technical solution models
  • Analysis of the available technology options
  • Preliminary risk and cost analysis

At the specification stage, we ensure that the software contains all the information and functions that the users need in their work, and that no redundant functionality is included.

The specification stage normally includes:

  • Concept analysis and model
  • Definition of the required functionality
  • Non-functional requirements such as data security, performance requirements and scalability
  • Interfaces to other systems
  • Requirements specification
  • User interface design
  • Designing the implementation of the project

A successful prestudy and specification stage requires experience and comprehensive expertise.

At Reaktor, technical architects and experts in defining functionality and project planning take part in the specification stage.

Case: Geological Survey of Finland

Reaktor performed a prestudy and specification work for Geological Survey of Finland's systems renewal project. The focus was on content management systems as well as on the client's needs for intranet systems and integration.

Case: SII

Reaktor defined and implemented an electronic service system for the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (SII). Because the information transferred in the system is highly sensitive, the system is subject to the strictest requirements for data security and error-free operation. The new system helped to considerably improve the level of services for SII's clients.
